The better your
education, the better your career options--everyone
knows that. But, for many adults, the thought of going
back to school is daunting because of familial
obligations, extended work schedules, and other time
constraints. That's where distance learning schools can
fill the education gap by providing an opportunity for
you to stay at home and learn at your own pace.
Many public and private
schools, colleges, and universities offer online courses
today. Students looking for distance learning programs
should be careful to seek out accredited programs for
strong degrees in their fields of interest, as degrees
from non-accredited schools carry little or no weight.
Distance learning and
online schools offer diploma, certificate, or degree
programs in almost every subject - education, health and
human services, business, computer technology, graphic
design, psychology, public policy and administration,
engineering, architecture, and many more. Some distance
learning programs can be completed entirely online or
through postal services, while other degrees, especially
advanced (master and doctoral) degree programs, often
require short-term residency or internships at some
point. Locations for residencies are designated by the
online and distance learning schools in many areas of
the country. Examinations are also proctored in
designated locations.
The cost of distance
learning can be considerably less than on-campus
education, without the overhead costs of health care,
tuition-supported programs and organizations, etc. Online
colleges also offer a high quality education that is
equal to or better than that found at campus-based
schools. And, even though you will study alone, you are
never really by yourself; you can engage in online
learning discussion boards and develop close
relationships with peer students and with faculty while
earning your Distance learning
experiences can be as rewarding as traditional
educational experiences. Online programs are flexible so
that students can "blend" their degree
programs through both online and campus studies to make
their learning experiences as convenient as needed.
Working students need not forgo their income to earn a
degree, and stay-at-home parents can learn without
neglecting their children or other obligations.
Whether you are
interested in learning new skills for advancing your
career or for beginning a new career, online and
distance learning schools can provide you with the
opportunities and the answers you need to find success.
